Lace Flower Bowl

Creating 3D textile art through free machine embroidery is an ongoing theme for me and I love to make embroidered vessels. An applique lace motif is sourced and is sometimes tea - dyed prior to stitching to produce a cream colour. It's then placed inside an embroidery hoop and sandwiched in between 2 layers of heavy weight soluble film. A web of free machine stitching in white rayon embroidery thread is then embroidered onto the three layers to give more stability to the lace. Once completed, the lace is placed under hot running water to dissolve away the soluble film and then carefully moulded into shape whilst damp.
